Scotland
My father was from Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders so Scotland is special for me.
However I had never spent time in the Highlands and went there in Winter 2016 to take photographs. Unfortunately my timing wasn't great as we were hit with a big storm. I shot in some of the most challenging conditions - we literally had to hang on to tripods as gusts threatened to rip them from us and we experienced horizontal driving rain into our lenses. Then it dumped snow... which was good !!
I went back to the Highlands in March 2018 and was not disappointed - it really is a wild and beautiful place.
In October 2019, I travelled to Torridon which is further North - the Autumn colours were fantastic - so vivid. As usual the weather was a challenge especially a crazy hailstorm at dawn one morning but that’s what makes photography exciting !!
Following numerous unsuccessful attempts to travel to the Isle of Skye during the pandemic, I eventually got there in October 2021. It was everything I expected and more. Stunning scenery with lots of rain thrown in ! Fantastic experience especially climbing up to the Old Man of Storr with head torches at dawn.
